Jan 17: The Internet Service Providers Association of India (ISPAI) has hinted that the government's regulatory approach in the past has been less than satisfactory. A continuing challenge being faced by global operators seeking to invest in India, ISPAI feels, is due a distinct lack of regulatory clarity. The association has therefore strongly urged the government to reform its legislative and regulatory rule making process in order to portray a stable outlook for the industry.
8ISPAI wants the government to usher in a pro competitive, unified and transparent regulatory rule-making process that not only allows the industry to comment on draft regulation in order to ensure a more enabling environment for foreign direct investment but also to take steps to bring certainty in the approval processes
8Moreover, the association argued for a transparent regulatory regime through suitable measures under the NTP-2011 to ensure that regulatory approvals are expedited and unnecessary delays experienced by ISPs are negated.
8Lastly, ISPAI also demanded that the role and responsibility of incumbent/significant market power (SMP) telecom service providers should be defined under the new telecom policy.
